Scott Lefurgy

Scott Lefurgy (baritone), made his New York City singing debut at the 2nd Annual Gala Benefit Classical Concert of the Hellenic Music Foundation at Merkin Concert Hall in 2001 and has been actively performing since that time.  Last season he was thrilled to step in at the last minute and sign the role of Col. Blagden in the New York stage premiere of Robert Ward's Claudia Legare.  Mr. Lefurgy learned the role just two hours before the performance and sang from the orchestra pit. Erik Meyers from the international journal Opera boasted that, "baritone Scott Lefurgy heroically sang the part...".  Other notable roles performed include: Marco (Puccini's Gianni Schicchi), Grosvernor (Gilbert & Sullivan's Patience) and Samuel (Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance).

Currently, Mr. Lefurgy sings with the St. James' Schola Cantorum of New York City and has served as the baritone soloist for the Howells Requiem, the Haydn Lord Nelson Mass and the Faure Requiem.  He was also performed the Durufle Requiem with the 1st Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor and the Faure Requiem with the Detroit Oratario Society and the 1st Presbyterian Church of Plymouth, MI.  Mr. Lefurgy is an active recitalist and has performed art song and operatic recitals throughout New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin, specializing in lieder and chanson. He has performed solo recitals with esteemed accompanists such as Martin Katz, Howard Watkins and Grant Wenaus and was also pleased to appeared in Pacific Opera's Great Moments in Music at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall. He is also featured on the recently released HMF recording Romantic Greek Nights with his wife, soprano Christina Rohm.

Mr. Lefurgy received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Michigan in the Artist and Scholar Honors Program, where he was a student of Rosemary Russell and the winner of the Undergraduate Concerto Competition.  Mr. Lefurgy is also a scientist who completed an undergraduate degree in biochemistry at Michigan and an M.S., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Biological Sciences at Columbia University.  He also recently authored a chapter in "
